Installing RaspberryPi Desktop on Acer AspireOne Intel Atom Laptop
Raspberry Pi Desktop on an Intel Atom N270 Acer One Laptop
I was recently given an Acer Aspire One laptop with Windows XP with 1 GB RAM and 160 GB hard drive with a 1024 by 600 pixel display. I thought it would be interesting to try and refurbish it with a RaspberryPi desktop for PC, which I downloaded from:
Raspberry Pi Desktop for PC and Macdesktop/
The downloaded filename is 2021-01-11-raspios-buster-i386.iso which is a 32 bit OS that could be installed on the Aspire One.
The Aspire One had a limited legacy BIOS that allowed booting from the USB ports but did not allow me to create a backup image using Clonezilla or Macrium Reflect. Perhaps it was the operator's fault. I gave up after spending a day trying. I used Rufus to enable the raspios iso to boot off my USB.
Installing Raspberry Pi Desktop
You can run the Debian with Raspberry Pi Desktop from the live USB drive or use it to install as your computer's main operating system. You can follow the instructions from the following link to install it on your legacy laptop to replace the old Windows OS.
How to install Raspberry Pi's Raspbian OS on a PC
For my daily computing I use two PCs one running Windows 10 Pro and the other Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. I use LibreOffice in both for my office automation needs. I also use Synergy to share a single keyboard and mouse with both PCs.
I considered adding Ubuntu to my HP Envy x360 but I have not done so yet. My Ubuntu PC is a Lenovo ThinkPad that dual boots between Ubuntu and Windows 10. So I thought it may be interesting to try and dual boot Raspberry Pi on my HP laptop, but I could not find anything on the internet, so I decided to install the Raspberry Pi desktop in VirtualBox on the HP instead.
The instructions is listed in the following link.

My goal is to test the Raspbian desktop and provide information on how to use it as a tool for computer literacy for users in developing countries.
